Each sculpture is made entirely by me. I sculpt each head out of clay and I sculpt each body out of paper mache and plaster. Each base is made of wood. All pieces are signed by me. All of my pieces are original pieces of art. Some of the animal faces are sculpted from paper mache instead of clay.
History
I began making sculptures because I was drawn to a paper mache antique saint sculpture I saw at a brocante while living in France. Today my sculptures cover a wide range of subjects. While I might sculpt famous leaders, such as President Barack Obama, George, or Abe, I often focus on characters that live on the outside of society. Hobos and clowns are some of my favorite subjects. They lived lives of struggle and movement and never stayed anywhere long enough to assimilate. I like the idea of experiences rather than societies defining what we are. My favorite characters in literature and songs are always the outsiders. Leopold Bloom in Ulysses or the characters in Tom Waits's music resonate with me for that very reason.
